Dell targets private cloud with new storage and security upgrades

Dell Technologies has announced a series of updates across its private cloud and storage portfolio as it looks to address customer concerns around efficiency, resiliency and cost.

The centrepiece of the launch is Dell Private Cloud, which is delivered through the Dell Automation Platform and allows customers to manage on-premises and distributed deployments using their choice of operating system stack. The company says the approach combines AI-driven automation with its existing infrastructure lines, including PowerStore, PowerFlex and PowerMax, to reduce operational complexity.

Product refreshes were also unveiled across the storage range. PowerStore has added a QLC-based model designed to improve cost per terabyte and will be integrated with the Nutanix Cloud Platform to expand customer options for virtualised environments. PowerFlex Ultra introduces a new Scalable Availability Engine, with Dell claiming it can deliver higher efficiency and greater resiliency for large-scale workloads. PowerMax has been updated with QLC support for capacity-heavy applications and new automation and security features. Meanwhile, PowerProtect has been expanded with an entry-level appliance for remote offices and a Data Manager Appliance that provides centralised protection and anomaly detection.

Simon Robinson, principal analyst at Omdia’s Enterprise Strategy Group (pictured), said the moves reflect the pressure many enterprises are under: “Organisations today face the dual challenge of managing traditional and modern workloads while navigating rising costs and evolving IT demands. Dell’s latest advancements in storage and cyber resilience provide a comprehensive and flexible foundation for disaggregated private cloud environments, empowering businesses to achieve greater efficiency, security and scalability across their IT operations.”
