Expel offers managed detection ‘first’ for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Expel, the managed detection and response (MDR) provider, has expanded its cloud control plane MDR coverage to include Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Expel claims it is the first MDR services provider to cover OCI environments.

In addition to OCI, Expel offers MDR services for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure clouds. It also protects Kubernetes data, and cloud security tools like Wiz, Lacework, and Orca.

Around 80% of organisations are said to operate in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments, said Expel, and many lack the internal expertise needed to effectively manage the security of their mixed cloud configurations. This can lead to unmanageable alerts, misaligned security controls, and security gaps.

“Multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments are practically ubiquitous, but many enterprises struggle to effectively manage security across these platforms,” said Yonni Shelmerdine, chief product officer at Expel. “We’ve added MDR support for OCI to ease that burden, addressing a critical cloud security need for many enterprises, and lightening the load for increasingly over-taxed security teams.”

Furthering its commitment to cloud security, Expel has now joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the organisation dedicated to defining standards, certifications, and best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment.

“Expel has always recognised that strong cloud security is paramount for modern businesses. Most enterprises have a long-term multi-cloud strategy, and having confidence that MDR is available and optimised for popular cloud platforms is beneficial to the entire industry,” said Jim Reavis, co-founder and CEO at CSA. “We welcome Expel to the CSA, and look forward to collaborating with the team there to further the best practices that will benefit cloud security worldwide.”

US-headquartered Expel recently announced plans to establish a fully remote support services workforce in Ireland, creating up to 50 cyber security jobs over the next three years, with the support of the Irish government through inward investment vehicle IDA Ireland.
